Who we are

Who we are

The Poynton family have been running Winning Kitchens since its inception on January 9th 1971.

Johnny Poynton had been involved in making kitchen cabinets since the end of WWII and had gained a vast knowledge of the manufacturing industry which made him the ideal choice to run the newly formed business. Johnny’s son, Kevin had only just left school and was working hard to become a cabinet maker, he soon discovered that he preferred selling cabinets to making them, so a perfect partnership was formed!

After the initial owner Mr Wilf Preston, lost interest, Winning Kitchens was purchased in the very early days by Johnny and Kevin. From there a powerful combination of knowledge and enthusiasm has driven the company forward for more than forty years.

Winning Kitchens then welcomed Kevin’s brother, John, who was himself a highly skilled craftsman and their Brother‐in‐law Tom, who had a particular talent for efficiency and keeping an eye on the paperwork and finances. Between them, they’ve managed to accumulate a staggering total of over 150 years’ experience in the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom industry.

In 2005, Kevin’s son, Antony joined the company. As well as his very customer friendly nature, one area of expertise for Antony is Information Technology. To be more precise, Antony has transformed the way we deliver our vision to our clients. Using state‐of‐the‐art software, we produce photo‐like images of the project, enabling us to show our clients exactly how we will transform their dreams into reality, no matter how big, small or awkward they think their room!

They say behind every good man… Kevin’s wife Sue also plays a very important part in the Company. Besides a crucial role in the dressing of our room displays, Sue is also responsible for maintaining our extensive showrooms (deceptive from the outside!) to an extremely high standard.

So, after more than 40 years of trading, we’re extremely proud of our Company and reputation. We would be delighted to welcome you to our showrooms so we might demonstrate our expertise and design skills. As we’ve always said from day one.
